How did you get started with Dobermanns and what made you decide to breeed?

One day I found a Dobermann bitch in the woods. I thought she looked like a deer, she was so beautifull. I called her "Kantjil" wich means "little deer". But then her owner came, so I had to give her back. But I was in love with the Dobermann forever. After a view years I bought my own Dobermann bitch, her name was "Barka van Arcoja" She loked very good and she had an excellent character. She became my foundation bitch.

What was the pedigree of your foundation bitch "Barka van Arcoja" and what made you choose that breeding?

The father of "Barka" was Armin Mechie van Karo Sesander and her mother was Eliza Ezra van Diaspora. I chose her for her looks but especially for her great character. The parents of Armin Meckie van Karo Sesander are Don Dayan vom Franckenhorst x Oenka van de Hooghe Weide.

What is the most important trait that sets Dobermanns apart from all the other working dogs?

The Dobermann is the dog with the human mind. He can think for himself. That's the reason I think it is harder but more fulfilling to work with this dog and gain some results.

How has the cropping/docking laws affected you personally?

I regret that cropping and docking are no longer allowed in the Netherlands because it affects the beautifull look of the Dobermann.

When people think of Dutch working dogs, most automatically think KNPV. Why have you chosen Schutzhund as your breeding tool? Also how would your dogs do in KNPV competition (any examples)?

The mentality of most, not all, people who train KNPV is not my mentality. I think that a dog who has a good character can do both. I also think that manwork for a KNPV dog is much easier then for an IPO dog because the KNPV dog is allowed to bite everywhere.

You have had so many great dogs over the years. Is there one who really stands out as your ideal? Also who is your favorite current male and female?

Every dog is unique in his own way. But the most ideal dog was Judifax Fanthomas [BH, opl.IPO I, ZTP]. I have six dogs now, I love them dearly. They all have something specical in their own way. I can not choose and say this is my most favorite. Perhaps, Judifax Omar [BH, IPO II, opl IPO III, ZTP 1A, SG] son of Ch.Roanka v.t. Rujanuda's Hof and Ch. Jivago v het Wantij, because he has so much courage and so much temprament but he is also such a real "gentleman" for humans and animals. I think even if a bomb would explode whe would not care, he has such a strong and outgoing character. This character of him we'll see back now in his offspring. We me I also have Ch. Roanka v t Rujanuda's Hof [BH, IPO I] she is the grandmother of Omar and the Mother of Raja Guna. Also Ontario Yorick v t Rujanuda's Hof [BH, IPO III]. He's my once in a life time male. He has produced some very good offspring in "working Dobes". He is the father of Judifax Raja Guna and the grandfather of Judifax Omar. He is 12 years old now and thank God still going strong. And I have Xaphne von Mahuba, Roanka v.t. Rujanuda's Hof and Judifax Raja Guna [BH, ZTP. opl. IPO I].

The dogs winning the big shows in Europe seem to be getting bigger and bigger how does this affect their working ability both good and bad?

I think they will be slower in their movements. It is not good for the neck and the legs when a working dog is to big.

Several of your dogs also have show titles even though I hear you described your dogs as more working than showing? How important is conformation to you and are you more proud of a show title or a working one?

I am proud of both of course. Although the character is more, much more important then the looks of my dogs. And most off all health. That's the number one priority in my breeding.

Is there anything happening with the European Dobermanns today that really makes you angry?

Yes, I think breeders are not looking enough at the characters of the dogs they use for breeding. Some breeders want only one thing and that is a beautifull Dobermann. Well where do I stand with my beautifull Dobermann when someone attacks me and this beautifull dog runs away?!

Are "Judifax Dobermanns" today superior to dogs you bred years ago?

No, I don't think so. Perhaps they're not as elegant as a couple of years ago. I did this because the Dobermann in the Netherlands started to look like a mice. I don't like it when I have to look twice to see if the dog is a male or a female.

Who is your ideal Judifax puppy buyer?

I think people who had dogs aspecialy Dobermanns before. If they didn't and they have children younger then 12 years I wouldn't sell a puppy to them. When people work all day it is not possible to buy a dog from my kennel and they are not allowed to let the dog live outside the house in a kennel. A dog belongs to his people. They also have to sign a contract witch says they are not allowed to sell the dog or give it away. The dog has to come back to us.

Why won't you sell to people with children under 12 years of age?

My answer is that there are a lot of people who don't know that no dog sees a child under the age of 12 years as higher in rank. A lot of parents think their children are saints and the children are allowed to give the dog a comment or even take there food away. And then when the dog bites it is the fault of the dog and not of the child. You don't have to protect childeren against a dog, it is the other way around. I hope you know what I try to say. When people had dogs or a Dobermann before I want to think it over. But if it is their first Dobermann I won't do it.

It seems the Dobermann is getting regionalized in Europe. Is there really a difference in the Italian, Yugoslavian, Russian, German, Dutch, and Czech dogs? Can you look at a dog or see it work and say that it is a typical dog from a certain country". Or is it more a certain lines are more popular in certain countries than others?

I don't know so many dobes from the countries you mentioned. But i love the dobermanns from the East European countries. But then i am only talking about there looks - I dont know their characters.
