Dobermann - The Guardian Angel

Dobermann saves his owner by getting help!

30/11/2010, SANREMO

Those who have never owned a dog does not know what it means to be loved. And above all be saved. There is the essence of the philosophy of Schopenhauer, about man's best friend, the bad adventure with a happy ending experienced by a young policeman who lives in Tuscany Sanremo.

Garritano Ghery nearly died crushed by a heavy gate, which has overwhelmed him when he was playing with his Doberman, age 3 years, Ares Dei Sauli Grimaldi. Ghery and Ares where playing in the suburbs, it was their moment of leisure, which almost turn into tragedy. A heavy nearby gate suddenly failed, falling over Ghery who didn't manage to react. Ghery got struck violently in the back and head, falling almost unconscious by the hit. He was completely immobilized and had difficulty breathing under the 90 kg gate. Any attempt to break free from the grip of rusted iron was futile.

Ares has immediately realized the grave danger: the first reaction was to comfort his master lovingly licking her face, then he tried to help. Problem was that were in a fairly isolated area on the hill of San Remo, where almost no one passed. The time turned to long, long minutes which seem an eternity to the poor police officer.

His guardian angel, Ares, however, has not lost his nerve. In order to save his master, he has not been afraid to stop the first car that broke the silence of a country road nearby. He forced the driver to stop the car, putting himself near the door, then he start jumping to show his good intentions, fighting against the stereotype of dobermann being dogs with aggressive character. After an initial phase of understandable fear, the driver and his wife sitting beside him, realized that the dog only wanted to draw their attention and wanted to follow him. They finally decided to let themselves be guided by Ares. He brought them to his owner and the couple realized the danger Ghery was in, started to make extreme effort to raise the gate just enough to pull Ghery out.

"They made sure that I could come from under gate" says the policeman, Ghery Garritano, 28, Prato, in 2006 assigned to the Society of Sanremo. "It could end badly if it were not for my Ares", he adds. "Because in that parts people rarely pass and what made the situation worse was that it all happen in the darkness of the evening. I think that if a child was in my place, and it is not uncommon for children to go there to play during the day, we would now speak of a great tragedy. It seems incredible that such accidents can still happen."

"I feel as if my back is broken to pieces and I have a bump on my head, but I can not complain", he said, "in the end it all finished well and the hospital discharged me after a short examination. I owe my life to my dog and I hope this story will, even if little bit, influence the common opinion of dobermann being aggressive dogs. Contrary to what they are often portrayed, dobermanns are sociable, affectionate and very courageous."
