Clicker training works.
Verbal praise, treats, tug/play rewards work equally well.
Unless you plan to always have a "clicker" do your talking for you, don't go there as it is a "poor" substitute for verbal communications. With verbal communications, your timing is the same. Praise or corrections should be within 0-3 seconds of the "event".
Timing is everything!
You will likely be "laughed off the schutzhund" training field when you break out a clicker. Avoid the embarrassment and don't even go there. _________________ Terry Neal |

Hi! Im new to this forum and I'd like to share what I've learned for the past 1.5 years using clicker as a marker.
The clicker, is used as a marker to "accurately" mark a behaviour or an event. Most clicker trainers adhere to the 100% pure positive concepts of training and marker training (verbal / clicker) is a method generally used as the primary reinforcer.
Clicker training doesn't mean you have to carry it around, nor do you have to mark every event in your dog's training life. The clicker is is used to shape and polish a basic behaviour you want from your dog, and use either a higher level of motivation (prey drive) to proof and extend towards your goal in training.
Best of Luck! _________________ Philippine Dobermann Federation
